Pointers Roll Past UW-Stout to Extend Lead in Conference Standings

UW-Stevens Point inched closer to its 10th Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference womens soccer title in 11 years by rolling to a 6-0 win over UW-Stout Tuesday at the Pointer Soccer Bowl.

The matchup featured the only two remaining undefeated teams in the WIAC and the Pointers now need only a tie in their final two matches against UW-River Falls or UW-Platteville to clinch the conference crown.

UW-Stevens Point jumped out to a 4-0 halftime lead against the Blue Devils, who entered the match leading the WIAC in scoring defense having allowed a total of just seven goals over their first 11 matches.

Kelly Fink had two goals and two assists, while Molly Cady had a goal and two assists and Jenny Bruce had two goals. Emma-klara Porter also added a goal for the Pointers, who improved to 10-0-2 and are ranked third in the NCAA Division III.

The shutout was UW-Stevens Points seventh of the season as the Pointers have now outscored their six WIAC opponents 28-2 in extending their NCAA record conference winning streak to 61 straight matches.

UW-Stout (5-3-4, 1-1-4) had the first shot attempt of the match, but the Pointers still held a 13-1 advantage in shots at halftime. The Pointers outshot the Blue Devils 29-3 for the match. Melissa Ballweg made 10 saves for UW-Stout.

The Pointers play Friday in a non-conference match at Carleton (Minn.) before their conference tilt at UW-River Falls on Saturday.
