POINTER NOTES

Pointers Sweep NCHA Player of the Week Honors

UW-Stevens Point landed both the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mens and womens hockey players of the week after a successful weekend on the ice for both teams.

Senior forward Mike Brolsma was selected as the mens honoree, while senior forward Ashley Howe was the womens choice.

Brolsma, an Appleton native who attended North High School, became the fourth player in school history to record five assists in a game while tying an NCHA regular season single-game record, helping on the teams first five goals in a 7-4 win over fifth-ranked UW-River Falls on Saturday. He also had a goal and an assist the previous night in a 5-5 tie against UW-Stout. Brolsma became the 20th player in school history to amass 100 career points, scoring his milestone point in Saturdays win.

Howe, a Lakeville, Minn. native, had game-winning goals in each of the Pointers conference wins over Finlandia (Mich.). She scored the teams first two goals and added an assist in Fridays 5-0 win. With the team trailing 2-1 on Saturday, she assisted a pair of goals that put the Pointers ahead and then scored the eventual game-winner in a 4-3 triumph.

The Pointer mens team is currently 5-3-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the NCHA, while the women are 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the NCHA. Both teams are home on Friday in NCHA games as the women host UW-River Falls at 5 p.m. at Ice Hawks Arena and the men take on UW-Eau Claire at 7:30 p.m. at Willett Arena.
