Baseball � Position Player
Matt Peetz (Spring Green, WI/River Valley)
� The senior third baseman batted .515 this week and extended his hitting streak
to 15 consecutive games. Peetz went four-for-four with a home run and six runs
batted in in the Pointers' 10-5 win over UW-Stout on Sunday. He also went
three-for-five in the nightcap. For the week, Peetz was 17-for-33 with two
doubles, a home run and 10 runs batted in. He has a hit in every game since
March 31.
Baseball � Pitcher
Jeremy Mueller (Waukesha,
WI/Kettle Moraine) � The senior right-hander earned his first win of the season
by shutting out UW-Stout in relief on Sunday. Mueller entered the game in the
third with the Pointers trailing 5-0, and proceeded to hold the Blue Devils to
three hits and no runs over the next six innings, striking out eight. The
Pointers recovered for a 10-5 victory. He also threw four innings in a win over
Lakeland on Monday. For the week, Mueller was 1-0, allowing three earned runs on
nine hits in 10 innings pitched. He struck out nine and walked just three.
Softball � Position Player
Rebekah Bauer
(Stevens Point,
WI/SPASH) � The sophomore left fielder became the third Pointer to hit two home
runs in a game, and batted .481 over nine games this week. Bauer smashed a
two-run homer in the first and followed it with a second inning grand slam in a
9-1 rout over UW-Oshkosh. Bauer also had four doubles this week to up her season
total to a team-high 12. For the week, Bauer was 13-for-27 at the plate, hitting
four doubles, two home runs, and 10 runs batted in. She was intentionally walked
three times.
Softball � Pitcher
Kelly Schmidt (Wrightstown,
WI/Wrightstown) � The junior pitcher went 1-1 this week, earning a 5-1 victory
on Sunday over UW-La Crosse. Schmidt threw a complete game, limiting the Eagles
to just five hits and one earned run while striking out three batters over seven
innings. For the week, Schmidt pitched 11.2 innings, allowing five earned runs
on 11 hits. She struck out seven hitters and walked only four.
Men�s Track Events
Curt Johnson (DeForest, WI/DeForest) & Mark LaLonde (Park Falls,
WI/Park Falls) � The senior runners finished in a virtual tie for first place in
the 5,000 meters at the Augustana Meet of Champions. Run in unseasonably hot
weather, Johnson and LaLonde both finished in 15:03, with Johnson being awarded
first by seven hundredths of a second.
Men�s Field Events
Kyle Steiner
(Grafton,
WI/Grafton) � The freshman decathlete placed second in the decathlon at the
Augustana Meet of Champions in Rock Island, Illinois. Steiner, competing in his
first ever collegiate decathlon, scored 5,939 points. He was just 61 points shy
of achieving an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Women�s Track Events
Megan Craig (Melrose,
WI/Bangor) � The junior runner set a new meet record at the Augustana Meet of
Champions on Saturday. Craig won the one-mile run in a time of 5:00.52 to set
the record and provisionally qualify for the NCAA outdoor championships.
Women�s Field Events
Jill Tucker (Reedsburg, WI/Reedsburg) � The sophomore placed high in the
triple jump at the Augustana Meet of Champions in Rock Island, Illinois. Tucker
jumped 11.18 meters (36' 8.5'') to finish second in the event.
