The Pointers picked up four more wins over the weekend and look for another on Monday when they face Rose-Hulman in Terre Haute, Ind. UW-Stevens Point swept Greenville (Ill.) 13-3 and 8-3 on Saturday before beating Albion (Mich.) 10-5 and Rose-Hulman 15-1 on Sunday.

Paul Molitor (Reedsburg, WI) went 13-for-19 over the four games to lead the hitting attack. Jim Olafson (Sheboygan Falls, WI) hit his first two career home runs to spark Saturday�s second game win over Greenville.

Jeff Pieper (Wausau, WI) had the top pitching performance of the weekend, posting six scoreless innings in the win over Rose-Hulman, which entered the game 14-2 and hitting .371 as a team.

The Pointers have their home opener set for Saturday when they take on St. Norbert in a doubleheader at 1 pm.

UW-Stevens Point is off to a 3-1 start and has seven more games this week on its spring trip to Fort Myers, Fla.

The Pointers opened the weekend with a 15-0 romp over Edgewood as Katie Knoedler (Mosinee, WI) and Jeanann Briski (Berlin, WI) combined to hold the Eagles to one hit. UW-Stevens Point then lost to Southern Maine 5-4 in eight innings before rebounding on Sunday to beat DePauw (Ind.) 5-2 and Upper Iowa 7-0.

Karen Guckenberger (South Milwaukee, WI) pitched a three-hit shutout with seven strikeouts in the win over Upper Iowa. She also recorded the final out for a save against DePauw. Nikki Best (Portage, WI) had two hits against DePauw and three hits against Upper Iowa.

The Pointers will play twice Monday, three times Tuesday and twice Thursday to wrap up their trip.

Erik Johnson (Albert Lea, MN) earned All-American honors in three freestyle events to lead the UW-Stevens Point men to a 22nd place team finish at the NCAA Division III championships over the weekend in Oxford, Ohio.

Johnson finished fourth in the 50 freestyle at 20.77 seconds, seventh in the 100 freestyle at 45.79 seconds and eighth in the 200 freestyle at 1:42.19. A swimmer earns All-American honors by finishing in the top eight of an event and all the honors were the first career accolades for the sophomore.

Also, senior Anthony Harris (St. Paul, MN) recorded an 11th place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 50.59 seconds.

Kenyon (Ohio) easily won the team championship for its 23rd consecutive national title.

TRACK AND FIELD

March 30 - at Big Cat Classic (Memphis, Tenn.)

The outdoor season gets underway this weekend for the Pointers as they travel to Memphis, Tenn. for the Big Cat Classic on Saturday.

UW-Stevens Point finished the indoor season ranked high in the M-F Power Rankings, which measure the top overall programs in the country. The men�s team was ranked second, while the women were ranked third. The rankings measure full teams in a national meet, compared to scoring just the qualifying athletes.
