Pointers live up to No. 1 seed against Eagles
By Denis Downey of the Stevens Point Journal StaffUniversity of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point senior Brant Bailey moved past some pretty big company in the
Pointers' 94-82 victory over UW-La Crosse in the quarterfinals of the Wisconsin
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament Tuesday night at Quandt
Fieldhouse.
With 26 points, Bailey surpassed former UW-SP standout and NBA stalwart Terry Porter on
the Pointers' single-season scoring list.

Porter scored a school-best 600 points in 32 games in the 1983-84 season. Bailey, who
now sits at 605 points, needed just 25 games to surpass the milestone this season.
"This is an awesome record," said UW-SP coach Jack Bennett. "It was one of
those marks that a lot of people thought might never be touched by anyone here at UW-SP.
"You are talking about an NBA star (Porter), who had a magical season that lasted 32
games. Brant is also having a legendary-type season like that, and what makes it even more
special is it is happening in a season in which we are doing so well as a team."
Team was the key word Tuesday, as Bailey was joined in double figures by five teammates as
the Pointers improved to 21-4.
Gabe Frank added 21 points, Jay Bennett pitched in 13 points, Travis Kornowski had 12
points, while Brent Larson and Joe Zuiker tossed in 10 points each for the Pointers, who
were a scorching 57 percent (32-of-56) from the field.
Zuiker added a game-high 14 rebounds, while Larson dished out a game-high eight assists. |
