Pointers Past UW-Superior

UW-Stevens Point hit its first four shots of the
game and never looked back in cruising to a 79-49 men's basketball win over
UW-Superior on Wednesday in Superior.
The Pointers made three three-pointers during the
stretch and took an 11-2 lead before eventually building the early advantage
to 20-4 by making five of their first six three-point shots. UW-Stevens
Point improved to 9-4 overall and 4-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference, while UW-Superior fell to 3-8 overall and 0-5 in the
league.
The Pointers took their biggest lead of the first
half at 31-10 and took a 40-21 lead into halftime after shooting 57.1
percent. For the game, UW-Stevens Point shot 52.7 percent and was 14-for-29
from three-point range.
The second half was much of the same as UW-Stevens
Point led by as many as 20 points throughout the final 18 minutes.
Freshman Pete Rortvedt drained five three-pointers
and finished with a season-high 17 points to lead the Pointers. Jon Krull
added 12 points, while Brian Bauer and Kevin Grusczynski each had 11 points.
Tyler Hildebrandt scored 16 points, including 12
in the second half, to lead the Yellowjackets. The Pointers limited the
league�s leading scorer, Leonard Cobb, to nine points for the game. |
