Ripon For Non-Conference Win

For most of the night, UW-Stevens Point had its
way with Ripon before the Red Hawks used a late run to get back into the
game as the Pointers prevailed 99-89 in a non-conference men�s basketball
contest Friday in Ripon.
UW-Stevens Point opened the game with a 17-4 run
and led by as many as 28 points with 9:03 left before the Red Hawks battled
back and closed to within nine points in the final minutes.
The Pointers led 46-25 at halftime, but Ripon
scored 64 points in the second half, including 45 points in the final nine
minutes. The Red Hawks hit 11 three-pointers in the second half and shot 56
percent from the field. UW-Stevens Point finished off the game by making 20
of its last 23 free throw attempts.
UW-Stevens Point was also red-hot from the floor
all night, hitting 50 percent in the first half and 52.4 percent in the
second half. The Pointers got career-high efforts from junior Jon Krull, who
had 26 points, and sophomore Steve Hicklin, who finished with 22 points.
Freshmen Kevin Grusczynski and Khalifa El-Amin also had big nights as
Grusczynski scored 13 points and El-Amin contributed 10 points. Senior Brian
Bauer scored 13 points.
Bo Johnson and David McMullen combined to do most
of Ripon�s scoring as Johnson totaled 28 points and hit seven
three-pointers, while McMullen totaled 27 points and six assists. |
