Pointers Roll Past
Blugolds for Fourth Straight Win

A crisp passing attack set up plenty of high
percentage shots for the UW-Stevens Point men�s basketball team on Wednesday
as the Pointers hit 16 of their first 20 shots in a 90-66 rout of UW-Eau
Claire at the Quandt Fieldhouse.
UW-Stevens Point shot 70.8 percent in the first
half and finished the game at 62.7 percent from the field in winning its
fourth straight game and improving to 11-4 overall and 6-1 in the Wisconsin
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. UW-Eau Claire fell to 8-6 overall and
1-5 in the WIAC. It was the Pointers� ninth straight victory over the
Blugolds.
The Pointers jumped out to an early 8-2 lead and
cruised from that point. They made seven of eight three-pointers in the
first half and used a series of short runs to gradually build the lead,
including a 14-4 spurt that put them ahead 42-21 with 4:28 left in the first
half.
UW-Stevens Point led 47-29 at halftime and after
the Blugolds scored the first two points of the second half, the Pointers
went on a 9-2 run as UW-Eau Claire came no closer. The Pointers hit five
consecutive shots again later in the half during a 12-1 run that gave them
their biggest lead of the game at 68-38 with 13:07 remaining.
Brian Bauer led the offensive attack for the
Pointers with 21 points. Jon Krull added 17 points and Pete Rortvedt had 11
points. UW-Stevens Point had assists on 19 of its 32 field goals.
Jared Bardon had 14 points and Dan Beyer added 13
for the Blugolds, who shot 37.7 percent for the game. Each team had only
nine turnovers for the game.
The Pointers, who played seven games in the past
15 days, have the weekend off before hosting UW-Platteville on Wed., Jan. 18
at 7 p.m. |
