Stifles UW-River Falls

When UW-River Falls missed
eight of its first nine shots on Tuesday night, it was just a sign of things
to come all night long for the Falcons.
UW-Stevens Point held the
Falcons to just 14 first half points and cruised to a 65-50 victory at the
Karges Center in River Falls, improving to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the WIAC.
UW-River Falls shot just 19.2
percent in the first half, going scoreless over a span of 7:26 as the
Pointers went on a 12-0 run to eventually take a 29-14 halftime lead.
UW-Stevens Point used another run in the second half, going on a 13-3 spurt
to push the lead to 52-26 with seven minutes left. UW-River Falls finished
the game at 32.1 percent from the field, including just 23.1 percent from
three-point range.
The Pointers had 12 different
players score with Jason Kalsow leading the way with 17 points, nine
rebounds and five assists. Nick Bennett added 16 points and freshman Gbenga
Awe tallied a career-high six points while playing 16 minutes in place of
injured center Eric Maus, who had his streak snapped of having played in all
95 career games. Tamaris Relerford also knocked down two three-pointers to
finish with six points.
Dan Torrez had 14 of his
team-high 16 points in the second half for UW-River Falls, which fell to 3-3
overall and 0-2 in the WIAC.
