FOND DU LAC - The
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point men's basketball team rebounded from
Tuesday's loss at UW-Whitewater wiith a convincing 82-57 win at Marian
College on Thursday.
The Pointers, the
defending NCAA Division III national champions, opened the game by hitting
six of first seven shots for 15-10 lead and never looked back. After
building a 40-28 halftime lead, UWSP (11-1, 4-1 Wisconsin Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference) secured the win by hitting all six 3-point attempts in
the second half.
Nick Bennett was the leading scorer for UWSP wiith 22 ppoints while Jason
Kalsow was one rebounds away from a double-double (19 points, nine
rebounds). Kalsow, a senior from Huntley, Ill., is currently seventh on the
Pointers' all-time scoring list with 1,454 points. He is 52 points away form
th next closest mark - 1,506 points by Brant Baily from 1996-2000.
Jake Harmsen was the leading scorer for Marian (3-10) with nine points.
The Pointers return to WIAC action Saturday when they host UW-La Crosse.
UWSP is 71-42 against the Eagles and have won 12 of the last 13 meetings,
including victories of 83-39 and 70-61 last season.
