Leads Pointers Past UW-Stout

Nick Bennett scored 24 of his career-high 29
points in the second half as UW-Stevens Point used red-hot shooting to put
away UW-Stout 84-70 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game
Wednesday at the Quandt Fieldhouse.
Both teams opened the game on fire from the field
as UW-Stevens Point shot 59.1 percent, but trailed 36-34 at halftime as
UW-Stout connected on 56 percent from the field.
The Pointers opened the second half with a rare
miss, but then hit 10 straight shots in building a 64-46 lead with 10:23
left in the half. UW-Stevens Point used the 15th lead change of the game to
take a 43-42 lead with 17:04 left in the game that was the start of a 16-2
run.
UW-Stout made four of its next five shots and used
a 13-0 run to cut the lead to 64-59 with 7:29 left. The Blue Devils trailed
69-64 with 6:16 left, but then missed their next four shots as the Pointers
began to pull away. UW-Stout missed its final eight three-point shots of the
game.
The Pointers missed two shots in the final six
seconds, but still finished the night shooting 63.6 percent from the field
and nine-for-15 from three-point range. UW-Stout was held to 40 percent
shooting in the second half and 46.7 percent for the game.
In addition to Bennett�s big night, Eric Maus
scored a career-high 14 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Pointers.
Bennett also had six assists and five rebounds. Jason Kalsow added 20 points
in just 24 minutes played because of foul trouble.
Jacob Nonemacher led UW-Stout with 16 points. The
Blue Devils grabbed 20 offensive rebounds in the contest. |
