MADISON - Players on the Edgewood College men's basketball team had a lot to say Wednesday.

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point decided to do all of its talking on the basketball court.

The result was a convincing 72-54 non-conference victory over the Eagles as the Pointers, ranked second by D3Hoops.com, moved to 10-0 on the season.

UWSP will return to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday when it hosts Eau Claire in a 7 p.m. tipoff.

"It was feisty game. But I don't mind feistiness as long as you focus on what you need to do on the floor," said Pointer coach Jack Bennett.

The Pointers made a loud statement in the opening half, outscoring Edgewood, 40-29, and the Eagles never got much closer than nine points the rest of the way.

Nick Bennett refused to be distracted by the trash talking going on. He went 6-of-10 from the field and drained half his eight shots from behind the arc, to finish with 22 points.

Joining him in double digits for the Pointers were Eric Maus with 11 points, while Jason Kalsow enjoyed a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

"This was a hard-earned win. I thought our team defense was the difference. We always had it hard on the throttle," coach Bennett said.

UWSP limited the Eagles (6-5) to 32 percent shooting (17-for-53) and held a huge edge on the backboards, outrebounding Edgewood 35-23.

Greg Blaska led three Eagles in double figures with 18 points. Randy Kolinske added 16 and Todd Paradis had 14.

"This sets up a huge game with Eau Claire on Saturday," said coach Bennett.
