Brad Kalsow to Play Basketball at
UW-Stevens Point
Brad Kalsow of
Huntley (Ill.) High School has informed University of Wisconsin-Stevens
Point mens basketball coach Jack Bennett of his intentions to attend the
school in the fall and play for the defending NCAA Division III national
champions.
Kalsow, a 6-4
1/2
shooting guard, will join his brother Jason, who was a second-team
All-American as a junior this past season and hit the game-winning shot in
the 84-82 national championship game victory over Williams (Mass.). He is
the second member of the Pointers 2004-05 recruiting class that joins a
brother on the roster as Kevin Grusczynski of Seymour will play with his
brother Kyle.
Were very
appreciative when brothers and family members decide to come into this
program because the older siblings are our very best ambassadors, Bennett
said. Brad is a very effective, but different player than Jason. Brad is
more of a perimeter scorer. Hes one of the finest shooters we observed this
past year and he brings that winning attitude we feel is so important in our
program.
Brad Kalsow is
Huntleys all-time leading scorer with 1,819 career points in 113 career
games for a four-year average of 16.1 points per game. He was a unanimous
all-conference selection the past three years and was an Associated Press
honorable mention all-state performer as a senior. Kalsow was also named to
the all-area teams by the Daily Herald, Northwest Herald and Elgin Courier.
What makes us
especially excited is the improved level of play he has demonstrated over
the past two years and the fact he is joining a program he and his family
are extremely familiar with, Bennett said. Were very excited about the
future of Brad Kalsow in the Pointer basketball program.
In addition to his
scoring numbers, Kalsow had 618 rebounds, 209 assists and 189 steals while
shooting 48 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free throw line.
UW-Stevens Point
set a school record for victories in 2003-04 with a 29-5 overall record. The
Pointers captured their first national championship after claiming the
Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason tournament crown.
The Pointers won the WIAC regular season title the previous four seasons and
have posted a 117-27 record over the past five seasons. |
