Men�s Basketball Team Announces Award Winners
Following its first ever national championship,
the UW-Stevens Point men�s basketball team announced its season award
winners at its recent year-end banquet.
Junior forward Jason Kalsow was named team Most
Valuable Player for the 2003-04 season. Kalsow, a Huntley, Ill. native, led
the team in scoring (17.9 ppg), rebounding (8.0 rpg), and assists (3.6 apg).
Kalsow also received the Unity Award and was one of three captains on this
year�s squad. In addition, Kalsow was a first team All-Conference performer
and scored his 1,000th career point this season.
Manitowoc native and point guard Neal Krajnik
received the only Senior Award after completing his fourth season with the
Pointers. In his career Krajnik played in 113 games and scored 730 career
points. Krajnik also received the Kurt Hoerman Passion award and was a team
captain.
Nick Bennett, a Stevens Point native who attended
SPASH, received the Dedication Award and was also a team captain. Like
Kalsow, Bennett was a first team All-Conference performer and scored his
1,000th career point this season.
Junior center Eric Maus received the Most Improved
Player Award. Maus, who is a Green Bay native and Southwest High School
graduate, was a starter for the first time this season and contributed eight
points and five rebounds per game. Maus also received the Humility Award.
For his efforts coming off the bench, Auburndale
native and sophomore forward Brian Bauer received the Fireman Award. Bauer
appeared in 33 games for the Pointers and was the team�s third leading
rebounder.
Kyle Grusczynski, a junior guard from Seymour,
joined Kalsow as a recipient of the Unity Award.
After attending every Pointer practice and game,
and putting in countless hours in the office and locker room, team manager
Will Atkinson, a Green Bay native and Bay Port High School graduate,
received the team�s Servanthood Award.
UW-Stevens Point finished the year 29-5 and
defeated Williams (Mass.) in the Division III National Championship game
84-82. |
