December 1, 2002 Journal staff The Pointers scored the first 10 points of the game and after Edgewood closed to within 12-6, UW-Stevens Point built the lead back up and led by at least 11 points the rest of the way. UWSP jumped out to 44-27 halftime lead, and cruised to a 78-51 victory over Edgewood College in Fond du lac. The victory improves the Pointers to 4-0 on the season. With the WIAC conference opener looming on Wednesday at UW-River Falls, Bennett said his team showed its best overall performance. "This was by far our most complete game of the season on both ends of the floor," said Bennett. "We were able to come in and beat a team which is perennially solid in its conference and beat them pretty easily." Senior Josh Iserloth paced the Pointers with 19 points to go along with five rebounds while Tamaris Relerford chipped in 14 points as both players hit four of five three-point shots. Jason Kalsow added 10 points. With
a pair of victories over the weekend in the Badger State Challenge, the Pointers
improved to 8-0 all-time in the showcase against Lake Michigan Conference
opponents and ran their non-conference winning streak to 24 straight games.
UW-Stevens Point opens WIAC play this week
against UW-River Falls, which was 4-1 in its non-conference games. The
Pointers are 4-0 for the third straight year. |
