LA CROSSE - The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point men's basketball team
sprinted to an early 13-5 lead against La Crosse on Wednesday. But they were
unable to win the 40-minute marathon against the Eagles as UW-SP lost 84-72 at
Mitchell Hall.
"From that point on, we had to scramble," said Pointers head coach
Jack Bennett. "We got beat by a better team tonight. The shot well and we
just didn't shoot well."
The Pointers dropped to 6-5 in the WIAC and tied with River Falls for third in
the conference.
The Eagles, who move to 7-4 and a tie with Oshkosh for second place, snapped a
seven-game losing streak and beat the Pointers for the first time since 1998.
Jason Kalsow led UW-SP with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Josh Iserloth added 13
points, followed by 10 from Kalonji Kadima.
La Crosse's Eddie Hebert finished with 25 points and 10 defensive rebounds. Matt
Schultz and Scott Meerstein each scored 15 points.
The next game for the Pointers is Saturday at Platteville. Tip-off is set for 7
p.m.
