Kalsow leads Pointers in defeat of Edgewood
OSHKOSH -- Jason Kalsow scored 15 points to lead the UW-Stevens Point men's
basketball team past Edgewood College of Madison 62-47 in the third annual
Badger State Challenge. The Pointers, who improve to 4-0, staved off a
second half which saw the Eagles close the UW-SP lead to 48-47 with 3:56 to play
in the game. But, the Pointers scored the game's final 14 points to seal
the win.
"The nice thing about this is that we are doing it with a very young
team," said head coach Jack Bennett.
Kalsow -- a freshman from Huntley, Illinois -- did most of his work in the first
half, scoring 11 points before the intermission. He was forced to leave
the game in the second half with a cut in the upper lip that required several
stitches.
UW-SP made 15 out of 18 free throw attempts, including all nine of its shots
from the charity stripe in the second half. Other top scorers for the
Pointers were Josh Iserloth and Kalonji Kadima with nine points apiece and Ron
Nolting with eight.
Royce Malkowski led the Eagles with 15 points.
