Eau Claire too much for Pointer men's basketball team

The Pointers - ranked 17th in the latest D3Hoops.com poll - fall to 7-6 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and 15-6 overall.

Eau Claire improves their record to 8-5 in the WIAC, 14-7 overall.

UW-SP possessed a 33-32 lead at halftime. But the Blugolds scored the first 13 points of the second half, highlighted by one of three 3-pointer by Sherm Carstensen.

Jason Larson had a career night for Eau Claire as he scored 28 points. He nailed all 10 of his free throw attempts and hit eight out of 12 shots from the floor.

Joe Zuiker was the leading scorer for UW-SP with 17 points while teammate Brent Larson added 14 points, including three first-half 3-pointers.

Eau Claire had the day of the week in their corner entering the game. The Blugolds have now won all eight of its WIAC games played on Wednesday.

The Pointers return to action Saturday for their final home game of the 2000-2001 season when they host Oshkosh on senior night. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Quandt Fieldhouse.
