Pointers Sweep Regular
Season Series at Superior

UW-Stevens Point finished off a regular season men�s
hockey sweep of UW-Superior for the first time since 1999-2000 after defeating
the Yellowjackets 4-3 on Saturday in Superior.
The Pointers� potent line of Russel Law, Sean Fish and
Rolf Ulvin was the impetus for victory again on Saturday, scoring three of the
team�s goals and six of the seven of the goals during the weekend.
The game was another pivotal
battle for position in the tight Northern Collegiate Hockey Association
standings as the Pointers improved to 11-7-3 overall and 5-4-1 in the NCHA,
while UW-Superior is 11-8-2 overall and 4-4-2 in the league. UW-Stevens Point
also beat the Yellowjackets 4-3 in overtime earlier this year.
After UW-Superior scored the game�s first goal midway
through the first period, Brett Coburn tied the game for the Pointers with an
assist from James Jernberg at the 15:39 mark of the period.
UW-Stevens Point, which has scored over half of its
goals this season in the second period, continued its solid play in the middle
frame with two more goals to build a 3-1 lead. Law scored off passes from Fish
and Ulvin just 27 seconds into the period and Ulvin scored with assists from Law
and Nate Sorenson at the 8:42 mark.
It took the Yellowjackets just 31 seconds into the
third period to pull within a goal, but the Pointers answered with a goal
assisted by Sorenson and Law at the 6:38 mark to regain the two-goal lead. Derek
Miller scored for the Yellowjackets with 4:01 remaining, but the Yellowjackets
were unable to get the equalizer despite holding a 28-18 advantage in shots.
