Four-Goal Period
Carries Pointers Past Blue Devils

A four-goal outburst in the second period was all the
UW-Stevens Point men�s hockey team needed to extend its unbeaten streak to four
games with a 4-2 victory over UW-Stout on Friday in Menomonie.
After a scoreless first period, the Blue Devils� Mike
Kautz scored just six seconds into the second period. However, UW-Stevens Point
rallied 30 seconds later with a goal from Rolf Ulvin and a shorthanded goal from
Matt Stendahl just 37 seconds later for a 2-1 lead. The Pointers added a pair of
goals in the final eight minutes of the period as Sean Fish scored and Ulvin
tallied a power play goal.
Stendahl�s shorthanded goal marked the Pointers� ninth
of the year as they continue to hold the Division III lead. Ulvin had his first
two-goal game of his career, while Fish and Jernberg assisted both of his goals.
UW-Stout, which entered the game ranked 15th in the
NCAA Division III and tied atop the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association
standings, scored a goal midway through the third period, but Marcus Paulson
finished with 26 saves on his 21st birthday to record the victory.
UW-Stevens Point, which outshot the Blue Devils 37-28,
is now 10-6-2 overall and 4-3 in the NCHA, improving to 6-1-2 over its last nine
games. The Pointers face another ranked opponent on Saturday when sixth-ranked
UW-River Falls brings a seven-game winning streak into Willett Arena at 7:30
