Second Period Flurry
Too Much for Pointers in Loss

UW-Stevens Point held a decisive advantage in shots,
but couldn�t recover from a three-goal flurry in the second period by UW-River
Falls as the Falcons earned a 4-1 victory over the Pointers on Saturday at
Willett Arena.
The Pointers outshot the Falcons 36-26 for the game,
but could only manage one goal against Falcons� goaltender A.J. Bucchino, who
finished with 35 saves.
After UW-River Falls� Tyler Kostiuk scored a first
period goal, the Falcons got two power play goals from Pat Borgestad in a span
of 1:16. His first came at the 2:55 mark of the period and the second at the
4:11 mark. Dustin Norman finished the stretch of goals with an even strength
score at the 6:39 mark.
Nate Sorenson got the Pointers on the board with an
unassisted power play goal at the 18:29 mark of the second period. UW-Stevens
Point fired 12 shots on goal in the third period, but was unable to solve
Bucchino in the defeat.
Marcus Paulson finished with 23 saves for the
Pointers, who are now 10-7-2 overall and 4-4 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey
Association. UW-River Falls has won eight straight games and is now 13-3-3
overall and 5-2-1 in the NCHA. |
