Second Period Goals
Stand Up for Foresters in Win
Box Score
A pair of late second period goals by Lake Forest were
too much for the UW-Stevens Point mens hockey team to overcome in a 3-1 loss to
the Foresters on Friday in Lake Forest, Ill.
With the game scoreless in the final five minutes of
the period, Lake Forest got goals from Brian Lee and Cory Wilson to build the
two-goal cushion. Lees goal came just 17 seconds after the Pointers had killed
off a one minute, 32 second two-man advantage for the Foresters.
The Pointers had two power plays early in the third
period, but were unable to take advantage and then Tyler Canal gave the
Foresters a 3-0 lead with a goal at the 11:40 mark. Sean Fish started a
Pointers rally just 13 seconds later on a goal assisted by Anthony Noreen and
Rolf Ulvin, but Lake Forest goalie Brandon Kohuch made 19 saves in the final
period to preserve the win.
Kohuch stymied the Pointers all night with 43 saves
for the game as UW-Stevens Point held a 44-31 advantage in shots. Kohuch's
performance followed his 47 saves in the Foresters' win over the Pointers
earlier this season. Marcus Paulson also had a big game for the Pointers with
several spectacular saves in his 28-save effort.
The Pointers loss tightened up the already muddled
Northern Collegiate Hockey Association standings. UW-Stevens Point fell to 5-5-1
in league play and fell to fourth place. Lake Forest is now 5-6 as five teams
are within two points of each other in the middle of the standings.
UW-Stevens Point plays Saturday at league leader St.
Norbert. The game starts at 5 p.m. at the Resch Center in Green Bay. |
