Pointers Fall to
Foresters for Second Straight Year

UW-Stevens Point saw its season
end in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association quarterfinals to Lake Forest
for the second straight year after suffering a 4-1 loss on Saturday in the
second game of the weekend series in Lake Forest, Ill..
The Foresters scored a goal in
each of the first two periods and then held off UW-Stevens Point in the third
period for the victory.
Adam Tobias scored Lake
Forest�s first goal with 5:18 left in the first period and Matt Forsyth added a
four-on-four goal midway through the second period. UW-Stevens Point outshot the
Foresters 31-16 through two periods, but was unable to score against goaltender
Scott Campbell.
Tom Vernelli scored a goal 1:21
into the third period for the Pointers� lone goal with assists from Matt Buha
and Chris Gehrke. The Foresters added another goal from Brian Lee with 1:46 left
and an empty net score from Mike Kneeland to seal the win.
UW-Stevens Point ends its
season with a 12-11-4 overall record. Lake Forest, which won all four meetings
with the Pointers this season, including a 5-2 opening game win, is now 15-12
and advances to play at UW-Superior in a semifinal game next weekend.
It marks just the third time
UW-Stevens Point has lost a quarterfinal series since the round was added in
1993. |
