Pointers Claim Another
Tight Win Over Hamline

For the third straight year, UW-Stevens Point scored to
break a tie in the third period and pull out a close men's hockey
victory over Hamline, claiming a 4-3 win over the Pipers on Saturday in
St. Paul, Minn.
The Pointers bolted to a 3-0 lead after one period,
getting goals from Brett Beckfeld, James Jernberg and Tom Vernelli. Rolf
Ulvin assisted two of the goals as UW-Stevens Point outshot the Pipers
17-9 in the opening period.
Hamline battled back with goals from Mike Forconi and
Justin Hanna in the second period. The Pipers evened the game early in
the third period on a shorthanded goal from Dustin Fulton. Joe Long
assisted all three of Hamline's goals.
Colin Trulock broke the tie with 12:15 left in the
third period with a power play goal. The Pointers beat Hamline on a goal
with eight minutes left last year and on a score with 4:45 remaining in
2003-04.
The Pointers held a 39-34 advantage in shots as
Marcus Paulson made 31 saves in the victory. |
