to Name in Pointers' Win

Three power play goals and a
shorthanded score gave the UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team its third straight
victory with a 4-1 decision at UW-Eau Claire on Friday.
The Pointers got goals from four
different players and scored on three of their seven power play opportunities in
the victory to improve to 7-5 overall. The Blugolds fell to 0-10-3 following the
game which did not count in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association
standings.
UW-Stevens Point goaltender Marcus
Paulson had several big saves in the first period as neither team was able to
score. The freshman made 12 of his 29 saves in the period, while UW-Eau Claire's
Steffan Braunlich stopped all 10 shots in the period before finishing the game
with 30 saves.
The Pointers got on the board at
the 6:14 mark of the second period when Nick Zebro scored a power play goal off
assists from Shane Foster and Taylor Guay. Russel Law scored another power play
goal at the 12:20 mark with assists from Rolf Ulvin and Sean Fish.
UW-Stevens Point picked up
its national-best eighth shorthanded goal of the year and fifth in three games
when Ulvin scored off a pass from Law for a 3-0 lead just over a minute later.
The Blugolds snapped
UW-Stevens Point's string of 26 consecutive penalty kills when Chip Dunleavy
scored a power play goal at the 13:36 mark of the third period. Chris Gehrke
added a power play goal for the Pointers with assists from Fish and James
Jernberg to finish the scoring.
The teams combined for 31
penalties in the game, including 19 in the third period. UW-Stevens Point held
the Blugolds to 1-for-10 efficiency on the power play. |
