Pointers' Rally Falls
Short in Loss to Bethel

UW-Stevens Point�s late rally fell short Friday night
in a 4-3 men�s hockey loss to Bethel in Fridley, Minn.
Trailing 4-2 in the final minutes, the Pointers pulled
the goalie and had several solid chances before finally getting a goal from
Brett Coburn with five seconds left in the loss to the 12th-ranked Royals.
It was UW-Stevens Point�s third game against a ranked
opponent among its first four contests as the Pointers fell to 2-2. Bethel is
now 3-0 overall.
The Pointers got off to a strong start as Shane Foster
scored on an assist from Nick Zebro at the 2:51 mark, however, Bethel countered
just 37 seconds later on a goal by Dan Bonne. The Royals, who outshot the
Pointers 20-7 in the first period, got another score with 45 seconds left in the
period from Nick Miller for a 2-1 advantage.
James Jernberg pulled the Pointers back to even with a
power play goal at the 4:43 mark of the second period on a pass from Rolf Ulvin.
Nate Peasley broke the tie with a goal just two minutes later to put Bethel
ahead 3-2.
Kent Bostrom scored at the 16:47 mark of the second
period to give the Royals a 4-2 advantage.
UW-Stevens Point held a 16-6 advantage in shots in the
third period, but couldn�t rally for the tying score. Bethel outshot the
Pointers 36-32 for the game. |
