STEVENS POINT - The UWSP men's
hockey team rebounded from a tough tie on Friday to beat Augsburg College 4-2 on
Saturday at Willett Arena. The Pointers scored three goals in the third period,
including two shorthanded shots from Mike Brolsma, to come back from a 2-1
deficit and improve to 4-2-1 overall.
Brent Halverson scored the first goal of the game for the Pointers at the 16:40
mark of the first period.
UWSP goalie Jim Redpath stopped 21 shots in net for the Pointers.
The Pointers outshot the Auggies in the game 37-23.
On Friday, the Pointers let a lead against Concordia-Moorhead slip away in the
final minute and skated to a 4-4 tie. The Cobbers' Dan Perry snuck the puck past
Redpath with 32 seconds remaining in regulation. Brett Johnson and Jon Rudnick
assisted on the goal.
The Pointers came back from a 3-1 deficit to tie the game late. James Jernberg
gave the Pointers a 4-3 advantage with 1:16 to go in the game, off a pass from
Ryan Kirchhoff. Brett Coburn scored late in the second period and Nick Laird
tied the game at 3-3 at the 9:56 mark of the third period.
Redpath stopped 18 of the Cobbers' shots.
UWSP outshot the Cobbers 43-22, including a 15-7 edge in the final period.
The Pointers are back in action Wednesday when they travel to St. Thomas
(Minn.).
