DE PERE - Andy Cote scored
three times, and St. Norbert College made good on two power plays to handle
the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point 5-1 in a Northern Collegiate
Hockey Association duel on Friday.
The Green Knights (19-1-1, 9-1-0 NCHA) handed the Pointers (11-8-1, 4-5-1
NCHA) a 9-0 loss last Saturday, but UWSP appeared early on as though it
would keep this one closer.
Adam Kostichka, the UWSP points leader, fired home a goal 11 minutes, 37
seconds into the first period to cut St. Norbert's lead in half and tally
his 10th goal of the season.
But Michael Buchan put one away six minutes later to stretch the SNC lead
back to 3-1 after the opening period.
Ryan Tew and Cote each scored once more, in the second period, to make the
score final.
But all scores may not have been settled, as the teams combined for 26
penalites, including eight roughing penalties, a game misconduct and an
unsportsmanlike call.
Pointer goalie Ryan Scott faced 52 shots from the Green Knights, while SNC
counterpart Eric Van Den Bosch faced 25.
UWSP will travel to Lake Forest, Ill., at 7 p.m. today.
