Pointers Rally for
Win Over UW-Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE - On Friday, the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point men's hockey team had a streak snapped of eight
straight games with scoring the game's first goal.
The Pointers did not panic and rolled to a 4-2 win over UW-Eau Claire at
Hobbs Ice Arena for the team's first Northern Collegiate Hockey Association
victory.
UWSP (10-3, 1-2 NCHA) got on the scoreboard at the 3:20 mark of the first
period when Brent Halverson slid the pack past Eau Claire goalie Steffan
Braunlich. Nick Zebro assisted on the shot.
Exactly 5 minutes later, Ryan Kirchhoff gave the Pointers a 2-1, with Mike
Brolsma and Nick Molski being credited with assists.
The first-period flurry of goals ended when Pete Kloranta found the net at
the 9:50 mark. Ben Manny and Phil Cherenski assisted on the goal.
After a scoreless second period, Zebro scored the eventual game-winner 8:10
into the third period. Adam Kostichka and Brent Halverson assisted on
Zerbo's score - his first game-winning goal.
Dan Francis added a little icing to the victory with a goal at the 8:53 mark
of the third period. Halverson and David Lee chalked up an assist.
Ryan Scott stopped 16 shots on net for the Pointers, including 11 saves in
the scoreless second period. Braunlich chalked up 29 saves for the Blugolds.
Both teams are back in action tonight at K.B. Willett
