Taynor Tabbed Assistant Football Coach and Strength Coach

Dave Taynor has been named an assistant football coach and the director of strength and conditioning at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point after serving in the same role for the past two years at Culver-Stockton College (Mo.).

Taynor will be the Pointers offensive line coach and replaces Kevin Deates, who resigned to pursue opportunities in private business after helping the Pointers lead the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in defense in 2003 as the teams defensive coordinator. Rob Erickson, who coached the defensive backs last year, will assume defensive coordinator responsibilities.

Kevin was a very important part of our success in football over the last five years, UW-Stevens Point coach John Miech said. His camaraderie with our student-athletes and game day intensity will greatly be missed.

Taynor was the offensive coordinator at Culver-Stockton and helped the Wildcats finish third in the NAIA in total offense at 468.5 yards per game and second in passing offense at 316.3 yards per game in 2002.

Prior to his stint at Culver-Stockton, Taynor spent two years as a graduate assistant at the University of Louisville. He was an All-American player and an Academic All-American at Urbana University (Ohio) and also spent one season as the teams strength coach while completing a degree in Exercise and Fitness.

Im ecstatic that we have a highly qualified offensive line coach joining our team, Pointers coach John Miech said. I had three NFL strength coaches call on his behalf, so it tells me we have a great strength and conditioning coach for our whole athletic department.

UW-Stevens Point finished 8-2 overall and placed second in the WIAC last season.
