Pointers Finish High, But Miss Out on Nationals
UW-Stevens Points cross country teams both had high finishes, but
fell short of national qualifying places at Saturdays NCAA Division III
Midwest Regional in Davenport, Iowa.
The mens team was eighth of 37 teams and the
women were 13th of 38 teams at the meet. The top two teams automatically
qualified for next weekends national meet and the next three places are
eligible for at-large selection. UW-La Crosse won the mens title and
Washington (Mo.) won the womens team crown. North Central was second in
both races to send both teams to nationals.
Individuals are also eligible for at-large
berths to nationals. Mike Ormond was the mens top finisher for the
Pointers at 24th place in an 8,000-meter time of 25:29, while Hannah
Dieringer was 34th in the 6,000-meter womens race in 22:38.
Dominick Meyer was 38th for the men in 25:48.
Phil Richert placed 44th in 25:53, Brad Seeley was 49th in 25:56 and
Travis Nechuta was 63rd in 26:05.
For the womens team, the Pointers had three
finishers all within two seconds in Sara Rammer, Amy Haupt and Allison
Wolter. Rammer was 99th in 24:02 and the others each followed one second
behind. Ashley Woest rounded out the top five, placing 117th in 24:31. |
