Women's Cross Country Qualifies for Nationals
For the sixth time in seven years, the UW-Stevens Point women�s
cross country team will compete at the NCAA Division III championships
after qualifying at Saturday�s Midwest Regional in Peoria, Ill.
The Pointers finished third overall for their
third straight trip to nationals, which will take place on Sat., Nov. 19
in Delaware, Ohio. The top five squads advance to nationals. Meanwhile,
the men�s team finished 10th overall at the regional, snapping a streak
of four straight national appearances.
Jenna Mitchler placed fourth individually to
pace the women's team. Mitchler completed the 6,000-meter course in
21:21. Teresa Stanley finished seventh at 21:36, while Ashleigh Potuznik
placed 25th in 22:20. Hannah Dieringer finished 32nd at 22:37 and
freshman Ashley Woest rounded out the Pointers� scoring, finishing 57th
in 23:07.
Washington University captured the team
championship with a score of 76. UW-La Crosse finished second at 99
points and the Pointers had 125 points.
Freshman Travis Nechuta led the men�s team,
finishing 26th in 25:43. Dominick Meyer turned in a 37th place effort in
25:54 and Josh Kujawa placed 48th at 26:00. Mike Ormond and Denton Helms
completed the Pointers top five at 26:43 and 26:51, respectively.
On the men�s side, UW-La Crosse cruised to the
team championship, finishing 35 points ahead of second place UW-Oshkosh. |
