Cross Country Teams Both Advance to Nationals

Point�s men�s and women�s cross country teams both advanced to the NCAA
Division III championships after high finishes at Saturday�s Midwest
Regional in Rock Island, Ill.
The women�s team won the meet for the
second straight year and qualified for nationals for the fifth time in
six years and the 13th time overall. Meanwhile, the men�s team placed
fourth to clinch its fourth straight trip to nationals and 18th overall
appearance. The national meet will be held on Nov. 20 in Colfax.
Megan Craig paced the women�s team by
placing second overall with a time of 21:13. Leah Herlache
added a seventh place finish in 21:27 and Jenna Mitchler was 12 seconds
behind to place 10th. Ashleigh Potuznik was 22nd in 22:11 and Kallyn
Peterson was 35th overall in 22:40.
The women totaled 76 points to defeat
second place Washington (Mo.), which amassed 93 points.
UW-Oshkosh and UW-La Crosse also qualified.
Mark LaLonde led the Pointer men�s
team by finishing second overall in 24:25. He placed just two seconds
behind champion John LeRoy of UW-Oshkosh. Andy Bednarek was 13th in
24:43, Mike Ormond was 26th in 24:58, Josh Kujawa was 50th in 25:25 and
Jake Rhyner was 60th in 25:34.
The men�s team had 151 points, while
UW-La Crosse won the meet with 73 points. North Central (Ill.)
was second, the University of Chicago was third and UW-Platteville was
fifth to also qualify for nationals. |
