LaLonde, Mitchler Earn All-American Honors to
Lead Pointers Mark LaLonde earned All-American honors for
the second straight year and Jenna Mitchler also was an All-American to
lead the UW-Stevens Point cross country teams at the NCAA Division III
championships Saturday in Colfax.
LaLonde placed sixth overall in 24:49 to lead
the men to an 11th place finish, while Mitchler was 23rd in 22:17 as the
women�s team finished sixth overall.
UW-Stevens Point was one of the pre-meet
favorites on the women�s side, ranking third nationally, but the
Pointers struggled from the start and battled back to place sixth. Leah
Herlache was 61st overall in 22:53 and Megan Craig was 79th in 23:02.
Ashleigh Potuznik turned in a 98th place
effort in 23:17 and Kallyn Peterson was 119th in 23:30 as the Pointers
placed in the top 10 for the second straight year. Williams (Mass.) won
the women�s team title with 110 points, while UW-Stevens Point totaled
224 points.
LaLonde raced with a group up front for most
of the race and finished strong down the stretch to post the sixth place
performance. Andy Bednarek was 58th overall in 25:35 and Mike Ormond was
92nd in 25:54. Adam Bucholz was 117th in 26:09 and Josh Kujawa was 170th
in 26:47. UW-Stevens Point totaled 309 points and Calvin (Mich.)
defended its team title with 107 points. |
