With five runners among the top nine
finishers, the UW-Stevens Point women�s cross country team made a huge
statement by winning Saturday�s UW-Oshkosh Invitational that featured
several of the top NCAA Division III squads.
UW-Stevens Point, ranked third in the
country, totaled 34 team points to beat fifth-ranked UW-Oshkosh and
sixth-ranked Calvin (Mich.), which both had 49 points to tie for
second place. The Pointers still have not lost to a Division III
opponent this season and have won five of their six meets.
Megan Craig led the Pointers with a fourth
place finish in 18:16. Teresa Stanley was sixth in 18:24 and Leah
Herlache was seventh in 18:27. Jenna Mitchler and Isabelle Delannay
tied for eighth with a time of 18:34.
Senior Curt Johnson took the individual
title in the men�s competition by finishing with a time of 24:35. Mark
LaLonde was fifth in 24:51 and Andy Bednarek was 19th in 25:41.
The meet featured the nation�s top four
teams as top-ranked UW-Oshkosh and fourth-ranked Calvin tied with 36
points. Third-ranked UW-Stevens Point was third with 70 points, while
second-ranked North Central (Ill.) was fifth with 145 points. |
