Curt Johnson placed
second overall and Mark LaLonde finished third to lead the UW-Stevens
Point men's cross country team to the overall title at Friday's Notre
Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
The Pointers, ranked
seventh in Division III and competing in the lower-division race,
totaled 52 team points to finish ahead of the Notre Dame "B" team,
which finished second with 57 points. Calvin (Mich.), which is ranked
second in Division III, was third with 66 points and Minnesota
State-Mankato, the 12th ranked Division II squad, was fourth with 104
points. Malone (Ohio) was fifth with 181 points and is ranked fifth
nationally in the NAIA.
Johnson posted a time of
25:23 in his second place performance with LaLonde finishing just one
second behind. Adam Bucholz was ninth overall in 25:37 as UW-Stevens
Point has now taken the team title in four of its five meets this
season. |
