Matt Peetz extended his hitting streak to 21
games and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point baseball team swept
Cardinal Stritch 7-3 and 21-1 in a twinbill Wednesday at wind-swept
University Field.
The sweep leaves the Pointers 19-9 on the season.
In the first game, Matt Polomis broke a 3-3 tie with a two-out, two-run
double in the bottom of the sixth inning. He finished the game 3-for-4 with
three RBIs.
UWSP relied on the long ball for much of its early offense as Matt Peterson
blasted a solo home run in the second and Greg Treml added a two-run shot in
the fourth.
Matt Mehne (3-0), a former Amherst athlete, was the winning pitcher with 4
1/3 scoreless innings in relief of starter Zac Peterson.
The win in the finale went to starter Jeremy
Mueller, who scattered five hits with a pair of walks and a strikeout in
five innings of work. Mike Hall and Joel Brieske also homered for the
Pointers, who banged out 15 hits in four innings. |
