Jones Sets
UW-Stevens Point Home Run Record in Defeat
Ryan Jones became UW-Stevens Points all-time home
run leader on Saturday, but it was overshadowed by a dramatic St. Olaf
comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Oles posted a 14-11
victory over the Pointers in Bloomington, Ill.
Jones finished two-for-four with a home run and
four RBIs to give him 33 career home runs and surpass the previous record
held by Mike Reuchel, who hit 32 homers from 1986-89. Jones has five home
runs in six games this year and hit four over the past two days.
Mike Hall was two-for-three and gave the Pointers
an 11-10 lead with a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning.
However, three UW-Stevens Point errors allowed St. Olaf to tie the game and
the Oles hit a three-run homer for the victory off reliever Matt Polomis.
Greg Treml was two-for-four with a home run and
Matt Peetz was two-for-three for the Pointers.
Late Friday, UW-Stevens Point lost to Illinois
Wesleyan 4-2 as the Pointers were held to three hits. Chuck Brehm hit a solo
home run for the Pointers. Jones doubled and scored the other run on a
single by Joe Waksmonski.
The Pointers are now 2-4 overall and play at
UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday at 1 p.m. |
