Student Achievements

At UW-Stevens Point, it’s the students who make our campus such an exciting place to live and learn. Our students are continually being recognized - locally, nationally and internationally - for their many achievements. Here we list just a handful of our students' impressive accomplishments - we'd sure love to add your name to this list!

Student Achievements

  Ten senior acting and musical theatre students traveled to New York City to audition for professional casting   directors and agents as part of the Theatre and Dance Senior Showcase. Offered for the second year in a row, the Senior   Showcase is part of a course that prepares students for an acting career in theatre, film or television.


  Alina Ott and Michelle Stephens have earned the famous Barry M. Goldwater National Science Scholarship, which is   awarded to 278 students nationwide who show potential in a science, mathematics or engineering career.  Ott and   Stephens were selected from more than 1,100 applicants.  Ott has worked with Devinder Sandhu, an assistant professor of   biology, and Stephens has done research with Hai Nguyen, assistant professor of astronomy and physics.


  A delegation of UWSP students competed in the annual National Model United Nations (NMUN) conference in New York   City.  The students represented The Republic of Indonesia on 11 committees, and brought back two awards this year,   amongst more than 4,000 students representing 300 universities from 29 countries. All the students are members of the   United Nations Student Organization (UNSO) on campus. 


  The National Selection team from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Washington D.C. presented   two honors to UWSP's production of Never the Sinner, for Distinguished Achievement in Outstanding Men's Tailoring     and for Ensemble Performance.  The play was one of eight selected from five states (WI, IL, MI, IN, OH) to compete at the     Region III Festival in Saginaw, Michigan. 


  Angela Klish, Jaimie Klemish, Christopher Taylor, and Brooke Johnson, shared findings from their recent travels to   Peru as part of a herpetology biodiversity research team on a Peruvian tributary of the Amazon River.  The team presented   its research at the College of Letters and Science’s Undergraduate Research Symposium.


  Eight Web and Digital Media Development (WDMD) students developed an online Web radio station for the City   University of London (CUL) journalism program.  During the summer, five of the students traveled to London with Dr.   Anthony Ellertson to present the Web radio station to CUL faculty and staff.  A WDMD student will now be interning at CUL.


  The UWSP Cornerstone Press is publishing the book, “Wisconsin River of Grace” by author Kyle White.  A student-run   publishing company, Cornerstone Press operates as part of an English Department class, Editing and Publishing.


  The work of 13 UWSP student researchers were showcased at the state capitol during the annual "Posters in the   Rotunda," an event highlighting the accomplishments of Wisconsin's top undergraduate researchers.  Wisconsin's elected   state officials and the UW System Board of Regents were present, as well as other students from across the UW System.


  Math majors Ryan Koelemay and Alex Richter
started the Center for Athletic Scheduling (CAS), a non-profit,   student-run organization that uses mathematical models to create customized athletic schedules for NCAA Division III   conferences around the country, including the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

 

 

  Dietetics major Richelle Morrow was chosen by the American Dietetic Association as Wisconsin's Outstanding Dietetics   Student for 2009.  Morrow will be recognized in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association.
