Major:
Business
Administration/Management,
International Studies
Hometown:
Telavi, Georgia (the country - I'm holding our flag!)
Extracurricular/Campus Activities:
I am publicity chair
for
International Club,
member of
National Society of Leadership and Success and
Society of Human
Resource Management, and a UWSP tour guide.
I enjoy spending time with friends, cooking some Georgian
food, going shopping, traveling anywhere, learning about
different cultures and languages, and exploring.
Why did you choose to attend
UWSP?
I was a foreign
exchange student in Wisconsin Rapids and had a great host
family.
My experience changed my life forever and after spending
a year in Central Wisconsin I knew I wanted to stay in the area.
I was offered an opportunity to go to Point, I took a chance and
I have been loving it ever since.
What do you like best about attending
UWSP?
I love that all of my
professors know me by my first name - I feel like they truly
care about me and my education. They are interested in my
culture, background and where I come from. It’s just good to
know that they are always available to help you out.
What is the best event that takes place on campus?
International Dinner. We have done it for 40 years and it is an
amazing event full of great performances and cuisine from all
over the world. Lots of
community members and students attend it annually to learn about
the world. It is the
celebration of diversity on campus.
What is your favorite memory of your time at UWSP?
It has to be one of my summer camps,
English for College. It is a 4 week program and we work with
minority students ages 15-18 to help them improve their English
and do better at school.
It is amazing the connections you make, memories you
create and the feeling you have when making a difference in
someone else’s life. I
have walked away changed too and still keep in touch with my
students.
What do you like best about the Stevens Point community?
All the wonderful ethnic restaurants and the cultural festivals
to celebrate the diversity in the area
What are your career goals?
I would love to get a job at an international company, so I can
go see the world and do my job at the same time.
I am also planning on getting a Master's Degree in
international studies and policy.
What advice would you give to a new UWSP student?
Join clubs and organizations, don’t ever say no to any
opportunity, and always take chances. Try to find the balance
between studying, working and a social life, so you can get the
most out of college. As
an international student myself, I would encourage everyone to
study abroad. Go see the world, explore, meet new people, learn
about different cultures, try yummy food, and live your life.
It is a great experience; connections that you make are just
life changing.
