Management
minor

Hometown:
Kansas City, MO & KS

Extracurricular/Campus Activities:

I’m involved with SACS (Sustainable Agriculture in Community Society) helping
out in our campus garden, working with local organic farmers, and eating really
good food. I am also a member of the Soil and Water Conservation Society and
the UWSP Firecrew, which helped me become a certified wildland firefighter.
When I'm not studying I'm taking yoga classes at the Allen Center, attending concerts at the Encore and other venues, cooking, hiking, camping and playing
with my pet rabbit, Antigo.

Why did you choose to attend UWSP?
I choose UWSP because of its great natural resources program, the feel of
campus and the Stevens Point area, the friendly people and I like cheese.

Favorite Event on Campus:
Eco-Fair, hands down . It's very exciting to see everyone come together to learn about the environment and dance to the music provided.

What do you like most about going to UWSP?
Free food all the time!  Just kidding.  I like the attention that I receive from professors inside the classroom and outside. The best though, is the wide array of student organizations and the amount of student participation and involvement in the university system. We have a very active Student Government Association, which is a comfort to me knowing that decisions for students are being guided by students.

What's the best class you've taken?
It's hard to choose a favorite.  It sounds dorky I know, but I've taken a lot. I would have to say either Soil Profile Descriptions or Agronomy class because we took a lot of field trips. I love field trips.

Favorite Professor:
I have lots of favorite professors because they all have their own quirks. Whether it's Dr. Steve Levine’s dry humor and soil jokes that not everyone gets, Dr. Megan Bukley’s very personal and open style of her lectures, Dr. Holly Petrillo’s passion, or Dr. Eric Anderson’s enthusiasm, kindness, and our shared adventures in Europe. They are all wonderful people and have great stories.  The faculty are very personal and enthusiastic, and their enthusiasm for the subject material is contagious.

What do you like best about the Stevens Point community?
It's truly a community, everyone is very friendly, and there are lots of interesting places and people around that you have to explore or get lost to find. It’s refreshing to interact with people outside of the academic world and Stevens Point citizens offer a realistic and hopeful view of life. The Farmers’ Market is a favorite place of mine and the Stevens Point streets are easy to bike on.

What are your career goals?
I have so many I can't choose. I would love to get involved with an international organization for soil conservation and environmental stewardship - my goal is to play in the dirt (or permafrost) on every continent. I also have plans to become an intern on an organic farm and hopefully have my own someday.

How has UWSP prepared you for your future?
I've learned the importance of being professional in all that you do. Being on time is also very important (still working on that).

What advice would you give to a new UWSP student?
Get Involved! Join a club or get involved in your residence hall or something. You will meet so many new and interesting people by getting involved and will be astounded by the vast amounts of opportunities that will come your way when you are open and willing to try new things.
