Pre-Professional Skills Test Praxis I (PPST) Preparation
What is the Praxis I (PPST): The Praxis I (PPST) test is a standardized test offered by Educational Testing Services (ETS) and is designed to evaluate a student's skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.
When should I take the Praxis I (PPST): The School of Education recommends that students complete the Praxis I (PPST) test immediately after they complete their Freshmen-level English and math - for most students, that means the summer after their freshmen year. ETS can take up 6 weeks to send student scores. Some students will need to retake a portion or all of this test, so students should plan ahead to take this test as advised.
How do I take the Praxis I (PPST): There are two options for completing Praxis I (PPST) - a written version and a computer version. Visit the ETS online (www.ets.org/praxis) for more information on how to register for Praxis I (PPST). The written version is only offered approximately 5 times a year. The computer version is available throughout the year by appointment.
The School of Education recommends that students take time to prepare for this exam. The following resources are available to assist you in your preparation.
Praxis I (PPST) Study Guides - Study guides designed by ETS have been purchased and are available at the Reserve Desk of the University Library. Study Guides can be checked out for a 3-day period.
Praxis I (PPST) Prep Program - Each semester, the School of Education offers a free test preparation program for students preparing to take the Praxis I (PPST). On their own time, students complete a practice provided by SOE. The practice test is then scored by SOE and students receive their scores and areas to focus on during test preparation. Following the completion of the practice-test, SOE offers group workshops: Math and Reading/Writing. We recommend that students complete the Praxis I (PPST) Prep Program their Freshman year.
