Youth in College - Teaching Assistant General Information

Teaching Assistants (TA’s) are youth between the ages of 12-18 who would like to volunteer their time to assist a teacher during the Youth in College summer program.

If you would like to apply to become a TA, complete the Teaching Assistant Application and send it to the Network for Gifted Education offices. Your information will be reviewed and a decision made as to whether or not you would be a helpful teaching assistant.

In the TA program, we are looking for youth who would be genuinely helpful to the teachers with whom they are working.

We hope that you have fun during the program, but your first purpose is to help the teacher to whom you have been assigned.

You may request to be assigned to a certain teacher or class, but you will be placed where you are needed.

We will furnish you with two t-shirts and ask that you wear one each day that you are at Youth in College.

You will be a role model to other children. It’s important that you extend yourself to help your teacher and the students in the class, that you follow all class rules, that you display a positive attitude, and that you are enthusiastic. Younger children will look up to you. If you are enthusiastic, they will be enthusiastic.

You may be asked to do many things. Some examples are: running errands, setting up snacks, making copies, helping individual children or small groups of children, supervising and monitoring activities, demonstrating skills, and helping at recess.
