Farida Shaban Ngaa, a 16 year
old student from Singida Secondary School in Tanzania, took this
photo titled "Greening Our School for Land Protection" As
seen in this photo, the area around Singida Secondary School is very
bare and dry. The area receives strong winds and rain that can
potentially up root trees and wash out houses. Trees help secure the
soil and prevent land degradation. |

This picture titled "Our
Garden" was taken by Joan Rodriguez Lafuente of Alfonso Casta
Martinez High School in Puerto Rico. Motivated by GET's First
International Photo Contest, these students planted a garden at
their school with support from their teacher, Luis Crespo. Plants
and flowers were donated by local community members. One student
wrote, "It is our responsibility to make a difference and keep our
school clean and organized." The group's mission is to continue to
organize additional gardens in hope to inspire others and beautify
their school. |

Wang Jinliang of Xinjiang No. 80 Middle School in
China is securing a bird house in a tree. For over ten years,
Xinjiang No. 80 Middle School (formerly called Jiangong Middle
School) has been involved in bird conservation projects. Students
study various bird species and their habitats and promote the
importance of protecting birds for the benefit of human beings. This
photo titled "Birds Habitat Project" was taken by Sun Yan, a
17 year old student at Xinjiang No. 80 Middle School. |

Greening With a Purpose

Xinjiang Wildlife-Painting POKER Project

Painting Contest. Most paintings were of wildlife and plants from
Xinjiang, China. The best 52 drawings were selected to be printed on

Group at the Beijing Yucai Middle School organized activities to
preserve the ancient trees and the Xiannongtan (agriculture ancestor
altar), which was established in 1420. Their display of these
