Wisconsin Historic Preservation Week and
Archaeology Week
May 1-9, 2004, "New Frontiers in
Preservation"
This weeklong celebration was created in
1971 to spotlight grassroots preservation efforts around the country. It
has grown into an annual celebration observed from small towns to big
cities, with events ranging from tours, reenactments, special exhibits and
demonstrations.
Each May, Wisconsin celebrates Historic Preservation and Archaeology Week.
During this week, many local regional events are planned to promote
historic and prehistoric places for the purposes of instilling community
pride, promoting heritage tourism and showcasing the social and economic
benefits of historic preservation.
Wisconsin's Historic Preservation Week is sponsored by the Wisconsin
Historical Society, Wisconsin's Heritage Tourism Program, the Wisconsin
Trust for Historic Preservation, Wisconsin Main Street and the Wisconsin
Association of Historic Preservation Commissions. |

"WHO OWNS America? IV: Land
Acquisition and Retention"
On the University of Wisconsin-Madison Campus, Madison, WI.
This conference is fourth in a series established in 1995 by the
University of Wisconsin-Madison, Land Tenure Center's North American
Program.
This fourth conference addresses land acquisition and retention issues
such as fractionation (heir property), land titling, inheritance, and
management. The focus is on those who are often excluded,
marginalized, unequally served, or have limited participation in setting
public policy.
The conference Agenda is grounded in the growing realization that problems
experienced in specific communities are not necessarily unique, and that
all communities and peoples can benefit from learning how others are
meeting the challenge of land acquisition and retention. |
