Wrestling Team Adds Eight Newcomers in 2005-06
Four
wrestlers who finished in the top four of their state�s weight classes
lead the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point wrestling team�s 2004-05
recruiting class.
Overall, the
Pointers have eight newcomers to add to last year�s squad that finished
second in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and 10th at
the NCAA Division III championships.
Jared
Kern from Mosinee plans to attend UW-Stevens Point after finishing as
the Division 2 state runner-up at 112 pounds last year with a 37-3 record.
He was fifth at state as a junior and posted a 105-13 career record. Other
top state finishers planning to compete for the Pointers are Kevin
Landry, who is from Cannon Falls,
Minn.
and placed third in Minnesota at 174 pounds the past two years with a
182-37 career record and Jake Wozniak, who
was third in Division 2 at 152 pounds for Stanley-Boyd last year with a
33-3 record and compiled a 118-19 career mark.
Additional top
recruits include Greg Lapinski from Ozaukee, who was fifth in
Division 3 at 135 pounds with a 42-7 record last season and Tommy Byrne
from West De Pere, who was fourth at state in Division 2 at 145 pounds as
a junior. Wayne Reis of
Seymour
was sixth at state at 160 pounds in Division 2 as a junior while posting a
124-24 career record and plans to compete at 174 pounds for the Pointers.
Also planning to wrestle for the Pointers are Brandon Fenderson, a 149-pounder from
Racine Park, and Luke Wheeler, a 125-pounder from Manawa. |
