Ellis Claims
High Jump Title at WIAC Outdoor Meet
Mitch Ellis captured the individual title in
the men�s high jump as UW-Stevens Point�s lone titlist at the Wisconsin
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference outdoor track and field
championships Saturday in Oshkosh.
The Pointer men�s team placed fifth with 75
points, while the women�s team was sixth with 70 points. UW-La Crosse
won the men�s title with 247 points and UW-Oshkosh claimed the women�s
championship with 231 points.
Ellis, the two-time defending league champion
in the indoor high jump, won his first career outdoor championship with
a leap of six feet, five inches. Nick VerDuin added a second place
finish in the 200-meter dash with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of
21.63 seconds. Kyle Scofield was third in the shot put at 51 feet, 11.25
inches.
Jenna Mitchler had two high finishes for the
women�s team and came just short in one of the day�s most exciting
finishes. She was second in the 1500-meter run, placing less than one
second behind UW-Platteville�s Marcia Taddy with a time of 4:30.7 in a
race that featured two of the four fastest times run in the NCAA
Division III this season. Mitchler was also third in the 800-meter run
in 2:16.67.
The women�s 1600-meter relay bettered its NCAA
provisional time with a third place effort in 3:56.89. The men�s
1600-meter relay was also third with a time of 3:17.97. |
