Relay Teams Win to Lead Pointers at Qualifier

     UW-Stevens Point�s men�s and women�s 1600-meter relay teams both posted NCAA provisional times as the men�s track and field team finished second of 13 teams and the women third of nine teams at the Pointer Qualifier Saturday in Stevens Point.

     The Pointer men scored 125.5 points to finish behind UW-Oshkosh with 152 points. UW-Oshkosh completed the sweep as its women also won with a team score of 218 points. UW-Stevens Point�s women scored 120.5 points, finishing only a point behind second place UW-Platteville. The men�s 1600-meter relay won in 3:18.35 and the women were victorious in 3:56.98.

     Katie Simo was the only Pointer to win an event as she won the 400-meter dash with teammate Marie Burrows finishing second as they both posted NCAA provisional times at 58.34 and 58.41, respectively. Laura Simonis finished second in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 26.39 seconds. Beth Richter took second in the triple jump with a leap of 34 feet, 11.75 inches. Jenna Mitchler finished second in the 800-meter run with an NCAA provisional mark of 2:16.11. Erin Koerner posted a second place finish in the 5000-meter run, completing the race in 19:17.22.

     Adam Baumann and Kyle Steiner finished second and third in the men�s 55-meter hurdles posting times of 7.97 seconds and 8.00 seconds, respectively. Nick VerDuin and Bryan Buechel finished second and third in the 200-meter dash at 22.37 and 22.66 seconds, respectively. Denton Helms completed the 5000-meter run in 16:13.82 to place second.

     Mitch Ellis finished second in the high jump at 6 feet, 9.5 inches and Steiner placed third, jumping 6 feet, 5.25 inches. Peter Prusinski finished second in the shot put with a throw of 51 feet, 2.5 inches.

     UW-Stevens Point hosts the WIAC indoor championship meet Friday and Saturday, March 3-4.
