Ellis Leads Pointers at NCAA
Indoor Meet
Junior Mitch Ellis finished
sixth in the men's high jump Friday night to lead UW-Stevens Point at
the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships in Northfield, Minn.
Ellis and fellow junior
Kyle Steiner entered the meet as the first and seconds seeds overall in
the high jump, however both of them jumped six feet, 7.5 inches. The
second through eighth place finishers jumped six feet, 7.5 inches, and
the places were determined by number of faults. Ellis had fewer faults
than Steiner to place six and while Steiner finished eighth. Andy
Stoecken of Loras won the event with a jump of six feet, 11 inches.
On the women's side, Jenna
Mitchler set a new track record as she won the mile prelims in 4:57.69.
Mitchler, the defending national champion in the 800-meter run, also
competed in the 800-meter prelims, however results were not available.
Mitchler will compete in
the mile finals tomorrow afternoon at 4:30 p.m. The women's and men's
4x400 relay teams will also compete with the men's starting at 7:40 and
the women following at 7:55 p.m.
The meet continues
Saturday with events starting at 10:00 a.m.
