Combine For Four Titles at Augustana
UW-Stevens Point had three individual
champions and a winning relay as the men placed third and the women took
fifth at the Augustana Invitational over the weekend in Rock Island,
Ill.
The men gained first place finishes from Nick
VerDuin in the 400-meter dash in 48.39 seconds and Adam Baumann in the
400-meter hurdles in 53.46 seconds. The 400-meter relay was also
victorious in 42.00 seconds. Megan Craig was the lone UW-Stevens Point
women�s champion, taking the 1500-meter run in 4:36.53.
The Pointer men�s team totaled 153.5 points to
place third behind champion UW-Whitewater, which had 245.5 points, and
runner-up Augustana, which totaled 158 points. The Pointer women had 84
points with UW-Oshkosh winning the meet with 299 points.
Tim Jankowski also had a solid day for the
men�s team, placing second in the javelin with a throw of 172 feet, one
inch and finishing third in the pole vault at 15 feet, five inches.
Mitch Ellis was third in the high jump at six feet, 6.25 inches and the
3200-meter relay was third in 8:28.43.
Marie Burrows had a runner-up finish in the
400-meter dash in 58.67 seconds for the women�s team. Also, Hannah
Dieringer was third in the 5000-meter run in 18:42.57, Ashleigh Potuznik
was third in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 11:58.41 and Beth Richter
was third in the javelin at 102 feet, two inches. The 1600-meter relay
was third in 3:59.10. |
